Making A Magnolia Wreath
By: Lindsey Poe on November 11, 2024 The holidays are here and it's time to impress your guests! Nothing says Seasonal Celebrations like a classic magnolia wreath. With only 4 required key ingredients, making this simple wreath couldn't be easier. Follow our easy step-by-step directions below and have your completed wreath in no time at all! When I was a little girl, I grew up in a home that had a large magnolia tree growing right beside it. It was my favorite tree in the world. I would often take my bookbag, fill it with some books, and would climb to the best branch on the tree to spend the day reading and relaxing. My mom once asked me what it was that I liked about that tree so much. My response was that when I climbed its branches it was like a whole new world up there. I truly felt that it was. It was such a dreamy and magical place to be. When we were searching for our dream farm over a decade ago, I secretly wished that we would find a property with a magnolia tree somewhere on it. When we pulled up to our farm to see it for the first time, there smack dab in the front yard was the most beautiful magnolia tree. I knew we were home. Naturally, over the years I wanted to find a way to create something special with the beautiful leaves my favorite tree grew each year. I decided to make a magnolia wreath and I have been enjoying its beauty ever since. Want to make your own wreath to enjoy? Follow along with my easy steps below! Step One: Gather Your Supplies 1.) Magnolia Leaves (you can use fresh or buy faux ones from your local craft store) 2.) A Grapevine Wreath Form (we used a 14 inch) 3.) Clippers 4.) Hot Glue Gun Step Two: Cut Your Stems Once you have carefully selected your magnolia leaves, it is time to trim the ends. Cut your magnolia leaf stems at an angle until you have a good-sized pile. You want the stems to have a point to them, so they will easily slide into the wreath openings. Step Three: Glue Your Leaves Put a bit of hot glue on the ends of your leaves and place them in order around the outer edges of your wreath form. Use your largest leaves for the outer circle. Step Four: Fill In Spaces Once your first layer is complete, continue filling in all the spaces until you achieve your desired fullness. You will want a variety of leaf sizes to create a layered look. I usually continue placing the largest leaves on the wreath first and then add in some smaller ones as I go. Step Five: Make Any Changes At this point, stand back, observe, and make any additional changes you'd like. I often add just a few of the smaller leaves to fill in any open spaces that I may have. Step Six: Enjoy! Now, it is time to hang up and enjoy your new handcrafted magnolia wreath! While these wreaths look fantastic on a front door, do keep in mind that they can be greatly damaged by the weather. Harsh winds and rains can easily destroy your wreath. If you have a covered area over your door, this will help some, but they will still be exposed to all the elements. I usually hang mine on my door the day of my holiday gatherings. Or, you could keep it outside and bring it in when you know the weather will be bad. Have you ever made a magnolia wreath? How did it turn out? I'd love to hear from you in the comments below!
Happy Creating! XOXO
